World's Columbian Expo Rare Ticket--Please read description
I know many collectors collect with emphasis on anything unusual about the ticket numbers. In this case, with a serial number of 143--just one four three--this ticket was undoubtably given to (or purchased by) an official at the fair. The first numbers were reserved for dignitaries, commissioners and so on.
The serial number simply indicates that this was one that was never available to the public. As a comparison, about 10 years ago I sold a similarly low numbered admission ticket: $275 and it was just a couple numbers higher. As we've noted, auctions can be a wonderful thing for sellers....when a couple of persitent bidders both want the same item.
It was once glued into an album; you can see the residue left when it was removed. I have always said such "damage" to the reverse of a ticket does not matter. The ticket will always be displayed/in an album with the front facing anyone looking at it. I know that some collectors disagree with me on this but it is totally subjective--either it matters to you or it doesn't. Pretty simple.
To me it was an easy decision to acquire it for resale as the glue/paper residue on the back is of no consequence. Again, if it matters to you, then this is not a ticket to add to your collection; if you agree with me, then it is a terrific and rare find.
