World's Columbian Medal Awarded to French Exhibitors as Award for Participation
This outstanding silver plate (I believe, plated bronze not pure silver) was awarded for services to the French Section of the world's fair. It is a scarce but not rare medal/plaque. Over the years I've probably sold 8-10--but my "over the years" means 45 years selling; and I have sold this medal once in a very nice original die cut box lined with burgundy velvet.
In my experience, selling and observing, this medal has sold historically for $140-$200; a median price might be in the $150± range. And as always it's a substantial range, but for collectors who saw the medal once....and then not again for several years, there is that inclination is to pay strongly since it could a long time until another comes around.
As I've said repeatedly, I hope to sell the majority of our inventory at less than average wholesale pricing, or dealer-to-dealer transactions.
