World's Columbian Medal Featuring Pilgrims, Columbus & the Declaration of Independence

This has to be a record for the most historical events celebrated at the same time on a medal. It's a popular piece of Columbiana and one I am sure most of my WCE customers are familiar with.

While the medal is a bit dark, it is in outstanding condition. If you look at the detail on the highest points which happen to be the busts of Columbus and Washington (neither of which was struck very strongly) Columbus has no wear and Washington shows only a bit of nose flattening.

As most Columbian collectors know, Mr. Columbus on many medals was struck weakly. The myriad landing scenes on aluminum and white metal medals can rarely be found with perfect faces. Even wonderfully BU examples often look as if they are only XF if you base that only on Columbus' facial features.

I will be selling a variety of world's fair medals over the coming months since I have far too many to squeeze into one sale later this year. And selling a variety before the sale is excellent advertising for it.
