MARKED DOWN & on Sale: Spindle Whorl for Loom, Prevents Wool/Thread from Slipping

This carved whorl dates back hundreds of years, perhaps to medieval times. A whorl fits over a spindle/spool to keep thread in place and not slipping off as it's spinning.
It's a bit less than two inches in diameter, in great shape and shows wear marks not just marks from being buried for centuries. I had a colleague suggest it could be of Viking origin but that is speculation so, as they say, "don't quote me!" I do know it is very old, what it was for and is in excellent condition.
The first photo shows the thickness and it might be less than you would guess as the photo shows the edge very strongly. It's about 1/4 inch at the edge/thick.
