Shipwreck Sale: Roman Spear Point--1 Big Hunk of Metal

This is one of several in a group of arrow, crossbow and spear points I'm offering in this sale. Like all the categories, I actually have accumulated far more than I can list at one time. I was very lucky to connect with a few dealers in the U.S. and England with whom I've done business over the years. Just one purchase was more than 30 items. And buying in this manner means I can buy relatively inexpensively--which allows me to provide some great pricing in this sale.

I wish I could provide you many paragraphs about each of these. This is a spear point that has a "tail" in the back that was sunk in the spear shaft so it wasn't going anywhere. In all those films of Roman and other battles we've seen I don't think any of the spears have wobbled from a loose point; but that's Hollywood sharing the battle, too.

This is 4 inches and 3 of those inches would have been sticking out to sink into the enemy's body. Look at that iron forged metal. I think that the movies are probably fairly accurate that the spear point was going to stick an inch...or three or four into someone's flesh. The way they fought with armies bunched up racing en masse at each other was nuts; of course the spears would find a home.

Please do look at the various spear and arrow points I'm offering. I used to be surprised at the finds occurring until I realized the huge numbers of items from the Roman empire span much more than a millenium. I liken it to the Civil War, which I know far more about. But for those hunting relics, it's very, very different. In Civil War battles the actual battle sites and even small skirmishes are well documented so one doesn't have to go all over Europe digging wide expanses hoping to find an item or two. And it also means that we have 1,000+ years of relics left behind that have been found in hoards. I've discussed a little about Civil War hunting for relics in some listings in this sale, as well.

As always, I'm very happy to answer any questions you might have and to offer duplicates of many of the arrow and spear points as well.If you would like, for instance, multiples of a spear point such as this I will likely have 2 or 3 similar ones that won't make it into the sale.
