Amazing Hand Painted Bowl/Brass Ornamentation Ming Dynasty ON SALE
This bowl measures about 5 inches across the top opening and about 3 1/2 inches in height. The Ming Dynasty lasted some 300 years so I cannot provide a more acurate date this piece was made; the Dynasty was in power in China from 1366-1644. So as a Ming piece it could have been produced from the 14th to 17th centuries. It's an amazing piece at an incredibly low price from the Ming Dynasty.
The Ming Dynasty was quite important in art and culture and is probably the best known of the Chinese eras among those not necesarily expert in the field. We have heard of the Ming Dynasty, its history and of course its artwork. One other small thing from the period is that little wall built in the dynasty--known as the Great Wall of China! Including the various branches and later additions to the wall the total length ismore than 13,000 miles. That this was done primarily during the Ming Dynasty is an amazing achievement, not just structurally but that it could be coordinated in such an enormous fashion.
Ming porcelain and other ceramics were done in a variety of designs and often have a deep blue and under glaze as is apparent in this piece.
I have been examining and acquiring pieces for this sale since June; this bowl was one of my later finds. I will provide an historical data sheet for the buyer, as I will with all of the historical items in the sale! We're quite fortunate in the Seattle area to have access to a very large Asian cultural community and a very fine Asian Art Museum. I hoped to visit a curator at the Art Museum to provide more information and still could do this prior to shipping to the winner. I would expect a fine antique store to offer this piece anywhere from twice my price to several times. I have always endeavored to provide my items at a wholesale or below price as my regular customers know and have experienced. Ming pieces can range from very affordable to VERY expensive.
I think that this is one of the 2 or 3 premier pieces I was able to acquire for the sale.
I may be able to date the piece by the "signature" on the bottom.
This is a great example of how happy I've been with my very intense "shopping" the last 4-5 months.
