Nomadic People, Scythians--This Lot is a Group of 3 Arrow Points
The Scythian people are not one that hold a strong point in history. When studying the Romans, Greeks and Byzantine people who seem to be the "headliners" in studying the cultures that existed from hundreds of years before Chist up to those of the Medieval age, Scythians don't come up much.
Perhaps because the Scythians were nomadic people and didn't leave a major impact on early history, a lot isn't devoted to them. The one thing that introduced them to me many years ago was the distinctive arrow points. They are the type to stand out in the crowd! Having seen them many times over the years without knowing anything about the history, I sought out these arrow points for this sale. I was fortunate to find two among my contacts who had some available.
The Scythians certainly had dwelling places, but not large cities, and were around for more than 1,000 years, with the height of their activity before the time of Christ. They occupied areas of modern Iran and spread out over Eastern Europe, conquering and melding into other cultures. In searching for culture information, what always comes up is their prowess at making war! Some excavations of known Scythian burial mounds also has turned up quite elaborate gold jewelry.
This lot is for 3 random arrows from the ones shown which are about half the number I was able to acquire. They also were known to fight from horseback and I would think from the appearance of the three-sided narrow arrows that they were quite effective. That they were used for more than 1,000 years in battle by the Scythians would indicate they were busy--and successful--in their raids.
The price of $29 is for three of these arrow points. Because they are so small and light, they can be added to any other purchases with no increase in shipping.
