Limited Edition Silver Abe Lincoln Commemorative Medal, #214 of 2009

Another outstanding Lincoln piece, this was struck in 2009 at the old Carson City mint in Nevada to commemorate Lincoln's 200th birthday. Numismatists are quite famiiar with the introdution of the Lincoln cent to celebrate his 100th birthday in 1909.

I generally shy away from modern coins, coinage and medals. As you see, I have found some outstanding earlier Lincoln medals. But I decided to acquire and make this one available because of the quality and interesting packaging and also because the silver medal was much nicer than so many modern medals that fall far short in both design quality and striking.

The fact that it is a limited edition doesn't hurt but I don't know that modern limited editions seem to have enough appeal for collectors that it pushes the price much higher.

This medal is .999 silver and weighs one ounce.
