#200-CIVIL WAR SALE: RARE BAZAAR POSTAGE CINDERELLA STAMP+2 FROM GREAT CENTRAL FAIR
The small beige stamp with red lettering is quite rare, as are most "Cinderella" or fantasy stamps that were printed at/for the many fund raising bazaars throughout the North during the Civil War. The most prolific among these are the 10-, 20- and 30-cent stamps from the Great Central Sanitary Fair, two of which are part of this lot. They're not expensive relative to others. The red Bazaar stamp with the eagle who looks a bit like a pigeon to me is a rare and often very expensive stamp.
I am not a stamp collector or a stamp dealer. The ONLY stamps I handle are from Sanitary fairs, the Confederacy and occasionally from various world's fairs. I find stamp catalogs almost useless; you can count on a reasonable price being AT LEAST 50% lower that in the catalog/price guides.
I am completely uneducated in any stamps other than those mentioned. I likewise expect my customers who buy them likewise not to be "stamp people."
This stamp is rare and over the last 3-4 years I have seen perhaps fewer than 5 for sale and none have been less than $500.
The two offered here from the Great Central fair are both 20-cent green stamps, with the American eagle in the center. Note that the two stamps are intended to be the same color but the printing at the time was not nearly as precise as it is today. For stamp collectors, color can be a huge factor. A dark blue vs. a light blue, depending on the issue, might mean one is $50 and the other $350. And since you can see many difference subtle colors in stamp printing, you can understand why I stay very far from that area.
The price for this lot includes the rare Bazaar stamp and the pair of Great Central stamps--all 3 as shown--for $240. I view this as half price (compared to retail) for the Bazaar stamp with the two Great Central stamps free.
NOTE: This lot of 3 stamps will ship at no cost to you.
