19TH CENTURY CIVIL WAR ERA STORE CARD ADVERTISING TOKEN--UNLISTED

We couldn't find anything about this specific token that we purchased with a group of Civil War tokens. I suspect that it may have been issued just outside the 1861-1865 Civil War years and thus is not in any CW references.

I certainly could have rejected this and adjusted the payment with one token removed from the group. I kept it exactly for the reason to reject it: It is at the very least scarce, perhaps rare. More research would likely provide me more information but I have not yet spent that research time.

The image of George Washington on the obverse is one I have seen on some tokens and medals and as I recall this version of Washington was usedon some European medal, but of course I saw it quite long ago and couldn't provide any more information; it obviously isn't from Europe....The name of the city is rather bold!

The token is between the size of a penny and nicjkel, which certainly fits the history of such tokens.

Priced inexpensively enough that you could make it a reearch project if you find such efforts enjoyable.
