#135-CIVIL WAR SALE: SWORD/BAYONET DUG AT GETTYSBURG
This bayonet is a Model 1841 Mississippi Rifle Bayonet. It has no visible markings and was dug in Gettysburg. It has a total length of 25 inches and a blade length of twenty inches.
It will display very well and the photo hardly does it justice as it looks just rather bland. The blade is far beyond sparkling bright you would see in an unused piece, but remember, this was buried in Pennsylvania dirt for nearly 100 years.
The blade is a bit uneven due to those years in the dirt, but look closely at the handle: It looks remarkable and retained that nearly new appearance whereas the blade (different metal) did not. In fact, looking even closer, I was surprised at just what excellent condition the handle is. This piece could be attached to a rifle as a bayonet or used as a short sword in close combat.
