#220-CW SALE: PAIR OF PERIOD GLASSES & ORIGINAL CASE

While not specifically a soldier's item, many soldiers had reading glasses and this case would take up very little room in the soldier's pack. The case is very worn from years' handling and was obviously made for the small lensed glasses in it. I am assuming that this VERY well worn case is leather, but I'm not sure.

Finding Civil War era glasses in their original case seldom occurs; we have other pairs of period glasses in this sale as well. The glasses were obviously used a great deal as the leather case is quite worn. Leather was the typical material used for virtually all cases and accoutrements carried and used by soldiers. It was the least expensive material available and it wore very well. One can only speculate on how long this case was used, but its condition would indicate for more years than just during the Civil War.
