#139-CIVIL WAR SALE: VERY NICE UNCIRCULATED RED BROWN BROAS BROTHERS CWT
I've written more than you probably want to read about Broas Brothers Civil War tokens. Simply for what I would say was a pretty small or insignificant store issuing CWT's, Broas is a really great story for two reasons. Broas issued a very high number of CWT's compared to most any other business and, the total quantity struck was so high because they continued on no matter how damaged the die might have been from overuse.
I'm especially fond of this specific CWT because of its grade. This is quite a lovely storecard (with the reverse a patriotic message), uncirculated and with very nice red and brown color. Both sides are virtually identical in tone and color; the majority of CWT's, if you were only viewing one side, might look outstanding on one side only to see the other appearing a grade or two lower.
This one of the nicer Broas tokens I've seen of the several HUNDRED I have either purchased or considered purchasing. I am most impressed by the very even and attractive peripheral red on both sides. I wouldn't want to sound too effusive; there is a somewhat weak strike from "WE S..." Just like studying BU Indian cents, you can be misled when looking at the feathers and headband. Many CWT's that utilized the Indian cent design had NO diamonds incorporated nor LIBERTY, and the feather tips do not look very well struck.
If you are intrigued by the Broas incredible volume of tokens, this is one you shouldn't pass up.
