#115-CIVIL WAR SALE: U.S. NAVAL GROUPING OF BEAVER HAT, EPAULETTES & BELT IN FITTED METAL BOX

This is one of the rarest items in this sale. Needless to say, such relics are 1) most often found in museums, 2) rarely come up for private sale or auction, and 3) nearly always are in somewhat tattered condition at best.

This collection of the beaver fur hat with band and button and the shoulder epaulettes and belt (and the hat also includes the interior sweat band) AND this box that appears to have been made specifically to hold and protect the hat and epaulettes. And to find them in the custom box is beyond rare.

I wish we had information on the naval officer who owned these! They are from the Civil War era but without the provenance we cannot verify that they were actually worn during the war and what the rank of the Union Naval Officer was.

Simply beyond rare!
