This GAR medal and badge are in virtually mint condition. The dark metal three piece badge consists of a header bar with dates and an image of George Washington with a Delegate bar below and then an ornate GAR star.

As perhaps many are unaware, the image of George Washington was used often by the Union--and also by the Confederate government on such items as medals, stamps and other items during the war. Neither North or South disputed that the country's first president was a revered leader of both the United States and the Confederate States of America. After all, they shared a common history for nearly a century before the southern states formed their own very short-lived country.
