#127-CIVIL WAR SALE: MEETING OF THE LOYAL NATIONAL LEAGUE ON ANNIVERSARY OF BOMBARDMENT OF SUMTER
This National League wasn't a collection of baseball teams, but rather an organization of vociferous individuals supporting the Union cause. This document includes many important and interesting articles, and a letter supplied by Gideon Welles having to decline an invitation to speak at the convention, but sharing his strong views in favor of the organization.
Outstanding printed and stitch-bound document, this is the format of hundreds/thousands of reports published by private organizations and the U.S. government. Few of these collected essays or articles were only published in this form and never elsewhere. Libraries and archives have many in their files that are accessible for research, but a great many are only found in estates and ultimately sold by dealers and in auctions. Whether you purchase any of these items in the sale or not, I would urge you to be aware of the many, many inexpensive publications of this type. You might also find examples in those annual library sales when they sell material no longer available in their stacks. It's great material and every serious student of the Civil War should be alert to finding them. The Nnational League made its presence and opinions known throughout the North, always vocal in its message of support for the Union.
