#217-CIVIL WAR SALE: HIGH GRADE, LIGHT RAINBOW TONED CIVIL WAR TOKEN

This is an interesting Civil War storecard token in that it advertises two distinctly different businesses.

One side advertises Bingham & Jarvis, the company that sold drugs, medicine, paints and oils. That was typical of a 19th century general store, as well as one that was somewhat specialized. All those old TV westerns are actually more than a little accurate whe you see bolts of fabric, fresh fruit, candy, canned goods, leather and so on all for sale in one store--sort of like Home Depot and a grocery store combined.

The other side of the token is Bowne's Iron Clad in Cooperstown. We would assume that to be a bar based on the name. One can also assume that Bingham & Jarvis's store was also in Cooperstown; they would hardly advertise their company without a city unless they were in the same city as indicated for the other merchant.
