#209-CIVIL WAR SALE: BONE BUTTONS, LIKELY FOR A SOLDIER'S UNDERWEAR

These buttons (the lot consists of all 11 in the photos) vary slightly in size and shape; remember, these are 165 years old and not manufactured by the millions in China. While they were part of a group of items we acquired without any information, I think it's pretty safe to say that these came from underwear. The style and size of the buttons might mean they were from a shirt, but likely not. Great for a Civil War display. And it includes all eleven we found. You can see the slight differences in most cases with one a bit larger and darker in color. I'm just guessing that they came from an animal hunted for food, so perhaps these were homemade by a very hard working wife or a talented carver.
