#140-CIVIL WAR SALE: AN UNUSAL "ALE" CIVIL WAR TOKEN....& IT'S 'ONLY' AN XF GRADE

We have said throughout our listings that we sought only high grade Civil War tokens for this sale, which indeed is true. We also have noted that virtually EVERY token in this sale grades AU or BU. Examining this one as I listed it, I'd have to call it an extra fine. Still, grading Civil War tokens is an exhausting exercise since so many look circulated when in fact they are UNcirculated but with a too typical weak strike or the product of a poor die.

Thinking back to my acquisition earlier this year I believe I purchased this (part of a large lot I acquired from a dealer) because it is unusual an scarce. The "Fine Ale Drawn from Wood" is quite scarce and it is VERY inexpensive.
