#107-CIVIL WAR SALE: 1200-PAGE BOOK ON THE WAR OF THE REBELLION

This is just one of the books comprising this official history of the "war of the rebellion." Normally a single book in a series such as this would only be of interest to the collector/researcher who happens to have a complete set--less one missing volume.

This 1200+ page volume is the index of the set, invaluable to anyone using all or just some of the other volumes. As you can see, it is a properly constructed and highly detailed index. Having written many history books, and consequently having created many indexes, I am well aware of how important a professional, quality index is...and unfortunately, how frustrating a weak or poorly done index can be.

While many publishers employ professional indexers to ensure the level of completeness and quality, it is still vitally important to have input from the author. The process begins with a list of hundreds of topics/entries that the AUTHOR feels are important for the reader. While most authors may not be particularly good at creating an index, they should in virtually every cae be able to provide direction for the indexer that will ensure the quality--AND THE USEFULNESS--of the index.

And here you have more than 1200 pages that index the complete series of books and at a glance I found it amazingly comprehensive.

The book is in decent but not great condition, but certainly very usable.
